Communion

A Communion Service is celebrated the first Sunday of each month.  For two thousand years, the Church has continued a practice called Communion, or depending on individual church traditions, the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist

Christians have celebrated Holy Communion in many different ways and with varying frequency, for some, every time they gather, others monthly, still others quarterly or even annually.  Faith Dialogue offers a communion service the first Sunday of each month.

Communion uses bread as a symbol for Jesus’ body and wine or the ‘fruit of the grape’ as a symbol for His blood.  The word “communion’ means fellowship and all of those who desire to participate in this fellowship with Christ are welcome to participate in our communion service.

Where Did Communion Come From?

Jesus started the practice of communion. He instructed His followers to use bread and wine to remember the sacrifice He was going to make when He died for our sins on the cross (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

Jesus called Himself “the bread of life,” which means that we’re nourished by Him, we survive because of Him, and He satisfies us when everything else leaves us empty (John 6:48-51). There’s a connection between our nearness to Jesus, believing in Him, and being fulfilled by Him (John 6:35).

The early Church celebrated Jesus by taking communion, sometimes every day (Acts 2:42-46). They saw that every time they gathered around a table to eat and drink, it was a chance to recognize Jesus and thank God for all He’s done.

If someone wishes to receive Communion but cannot come to the church service, can Communion be brought to them?

Certainly. As an extension of our monthly celebration of the Lord’s Supper, Communion is brought to each who wish it but could not attend the service. Call or email us to arrange for communion in your home and also at Celebration and other area hospitals.
