For the past 6 months this has been a central theme of much of dialogue between myself and other Muslims and Christians. My question is, are there Christians who have remained on the Straight Path [Sirat al-Mustaqeem] despite some who may have strayed into polytheism?

Secondly, how narrowly should we define polytheism or might it also include such 'gods' as money, power, individual freedom, and on and on? If polytheism was to include some of these other 'gods' of the 21st century, what might the role of those who truly are striving to remain on the Straight Path look like in today's world?

My understanding of the Straight Path is that this means one who does not add partners to Allah (swt) (Aal-E-Imran 3:64), believes in Him alone (Al-Maeda 5:73), and doesn't believe that Allah (swt) has any literal 'sons' (An-Nisa 4:171).

Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but based on what I've read these verses are in complete agreement with Biblical faith. Any thoughts?

I'm hoping to spark some discussion so will pause for now and see what others have to say.

Salaam,
